Piseev: God forbid that all coaches treat their students like Tutberidze

Honorary President of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) Valentin Piseev commented on the discussion of the relationship between coach Eteri Tutberidze and her student, Beijing Olympic champion in the team championship Kamila Valieva.

Earlier, the head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, expressed disappointment that Tutberidze did not cheer Valieva after her unsuccessful performance in the singles competition. In addition, the German and Ukrainian figure skater, three-time Olympic medalist Alena Savchenko called Tutberidze's methods of communication with students irrelevant and did not rule out that her wards may suffer from ill-treatment. Piseev strongly rejected these speculations, saying that this is a personal matter of the coach and her wards.

“I respect Savchenko as an athlete, she is really a great figure skater who has gone through a lot. But it is not her business to get in and analyze something from the outside, not knowing the situation, not knowing the ritual. After all, each group, each coach and athlete has a certain ritual with which he goes on the ice. You can see for yourself: they say something to each other, set each other up. And when they leave the ice, too. The same happens with Eteri, as is customary.

Savchenko should not judge, and not the IOC president - this is not his level, but he got into it and begins to discuss it. There was no need to give Bach a reason to get hooked on this, and many, even famous personalities, began to express their attitude. This is the business of Tutberidze and her students. God grant that everyone treats his students the way Tutberidze treats his own, and at the same time there would be a result.

I absolutely disagree with Savchenko, although, I repeat, I respect her very much. Well, Eteri spoke sternly with Camila after the rental, but then she kissed her and hugged her. Relationships are completely different. It was a lightning-fast reaction, it must be borne in mind that Tutberidze experienced no less than Valieva herself. The situation is not easy, but, in any case, I would not advise getting in from the outside, ”said Piseev.

Earlier it was reported that about 40% of Russians watched figure skating competitions as part of the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
