Russia (bbabo.net), - Doctors of the Regional Clinical Hospital No. 2 in Tyumen encountered a rather rare case. An elderly woman was urgently brought here from Yalutorovsk, who, after a fracture of the femoral neck, was fitted with a prosthesis, but due to pathology it broke.

After the installation of a metal structure, the healing of the fracture did not go according to plan: osteosynthesis was performed with a bunch of wires, but complications began, and a false joint developed in the hip region. Such a condition is accompanied by a violation of the continuity of the tubular bone and mobility appears in those departments where it should not be. Usually such a pathology proceeds without pronounced symptoms, but the patient felt severe pain and came to her district hospital.

“Due to the fact that the neck did not grow together, the pseudoarthrosis became mobile, which led to a fracture of the metal structure,” explained Alexei Farion, head of the traumatology department.

The pensioner had a CT scan, and it became obvious that part of the broken structure migrated into the abdominal cavity and is located between the uterus and the rectum. It was decided to urgently operate. Surgeons successfully removed a broken six-centimeter wire that could have damaged internal organs.

After the woman recovered (it took a week), she underwent hip arthroplasty: the old metal structure was removed and a new one was installed.

"Now the patient is training to sit down. Subsequently, with complete healing, she will begin to stand up with a moderate load on the limb," added Dr. Faryon.
