According to the city administration of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, one room with an area of ​​10 square meters burned out in a three-room apartment. There were two people in the apartment - Vladimir Yarantsev and his wife. The spouse was saved, she was hospitalized with poisoning by combustion products.

Vladimir Yarantsev worked at St. Petersburg State University for many years and had the title of professor. He is the author of the encyclopedia "Three Centuries of St. Petersburg". In recent years, Yarantsev organized walking and bus excursions, they were so fond of Petersburgers and guests of the city that fans of the historian's talent even founded a small fan community on the Vkontakte social network.

In December last year it became known: Yarantsev and his wife are seriously ill and need constant care. According to preliminary data, the scientist himself lost the ability to move independently.

It is also known that the spouses' apartment was heavily littered. Vladimir Yarantsev was 72 years old.
