Ukrainian biathlete Semerenko withdrew from the Games after losing consciousness

The Olympic champion of the Games-2014 in Sochi in biathlon, Ukrainian Valentina Semerenko, completed her performance at the Olympics in Beijing ahead of schedule due to health problems. As Volodymyr Bryznak, head of the Ukrainian Biathlon Federation, said in an interview with Champion.com.ua, the athlete lost consciousness during the individual race on Monday and will now return to her homeland in the near future.

The individual race on Monday ended with the victory of the German Denise Herrmann. Semerenko retired after the second shooting range and failed to finish. Earlier at the Beijing Games, the 36-year-old biathlete earned three penalties in the mixed relay, and the Ukrainian team eventually took 13th place.

German biathlete Herrmann won the individual race at the 2022 Olympics “Valya wanted to rehabilitate herself for her performance in the mixed relay and started quickly, but the jokes are short with mountains, they punished her. As I understand it, Valentina lost consciousness or was close to it - her head was spinning, and she could not continue the race. After the examination at the clinic, they decided to send her home by the next plane, she will no longer be able to help the team, Anastasia Merkushina will be announced instead, ”said Vladimir Brynzak.

Valentina Semerenko won gold at the Olympic Games in Sochi as part of the Ukrainian team in the women's relay.

Also, the athlete is the world champion in biathlon. Semerenko won her gold in the mass start at the 2015 World Championships in Kontiolahti, Finland.
