The share of the identified omicron-strain of coronavirus in Russia is very high and may in the near future lead to an increase in the incidence of COVID-19. Kamil Khafizov, the head of the scientific group for the development of new diagnostic methods based on sequencing technologies at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, said this on the air of the Russia 24 TV channel.

In Russia, over the past day, 17,525 new cases of coronavirus infection have been identified. At the same time, 13% of new infections did not have clinical manifestations of the disease.

Earlier, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, announced that there were signs of a worsening epidemiological situation in Russia. She also noted an increase in morbidity in 35 regions of the country, where this figure exceeds the national average.

Prior to this, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that in the capital there are already many cases of the omicron strain of the coronavirus.
