The Kremlin called the situation with Valieva's doping test a misunderstanding

The Kremlin is convinced that the situation with a positive doping test of the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva is a misunderstanding, said the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov. The words of the Kremlin representative are quoted by TASS.

“Now we are convinced that we are talking about some kind of misunderstanding. Our sports officials have certain questions about the timing of testing Valieva's samples. We record these issues and the concerns of our sports officials,” Peskov said.

Peskov added that the Kremlin “does not comment and does not want to comment on the situation” and is waiting for the completion of the proceedings. According to him, the Kremlin urges to wait for the completion of the proceedings against Valieva.

The head of the ROC admitted that Valieva’s doping test was “held” until the Olympics 2022 Olympics Valieva on December 25 at the Russian Championship passed a positive test for trimetazidine. On February 8, RUSADA imposed a temporary suspension on the 15-year-old figure skater, but the next day, the RUSADA disciplinary committee overturned this decision, which allowed the season leader to continue performing at the Beijing Olympics.

On February 7, Russian figure skaters, including Valieva, won the team tournament at the Olympics, but the award ceremony has not yet taken place.

The IOC and the International Skating Union said they would appeal RUSADA's decision to allow Valieva to compete in the Olympics.

The head of the ROC, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, called it a strange situation that a doping test from St. Petersburg reached the laboratory in Stockholm for almost a month, he admitted that Valieva’s result was “held” until the Olympics.
