The Russian men's ice hockey team won the opening match of the Olympic tournament in Beijing. Wards of Alexei Zhamnov defeated the Swiss national team with a score of 1:0.

The only goal in the game was credited to Anton Slepyshev. The striker scored three seconds before the end of the first period. In the scoring episode, the striker ended up with the puck behind the gates of the Swiss, advanced along the board and threw a projectile on the nickel of the gate. Transfer tried to interrupt Enzo Corvi, but the puck from his foot flew into the goal.

Another game in group B, in which Russia plays, will begin in less than an hour. It will meet the national teams of Denmark and the Czech Republic.
