ROC commented on the court decision on the admission of Valieva to the Olympics

The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) during the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) hearing in the case of figure skater Kamila Valieva insisted that her admission to individual competition at the Olympics fully complies with the fundamental principles of fairness, good faith and proportionality. This is stated in a statement on the ROC website.

“The ROC lawyers, together with the athlete’s lawyers, proved that the decision of the RUSADA disciplinary anti-doping committee should be upheld, and the athlete retained her legal right to participate in the Olympic Games. The ROC initially paid special attention to the issue of compliance with the timing of the analysis of the sample at the Stockholm Anti-Doping Laboratory. This fact was also separately noted by the board when making a decision, ”the statement says.

The ROC said that they consider it “extremely important to conduct a full-fledged objective investigation” in the situation with Valieva’s positive doping test and are interested in an “objective, fair decision” in this case.

The ex-head of RUSADA called the CAS decision on Valieva as fair as possible. At the end of December 2021, Valieva passed a positive doping test for trimetazidine. The test results became known after the end of the team figure skating competition at the Olympics, in which the Russian team with Valieva won.

RUSADA imposed a temporary suspension on the athlete, which was lifted by the agency's disciplinary committee the next day. The IOC, the International Skating Union (ISU) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) filed appeals against the skater's admission to the Games, but the CAS exit panel took the side of RUSADA and allowed Valieva to continue performing at the Olympics.

Individual figure skater competitions will be held on February 15 and 17. Russia will be represented by Valieva, Alexandra Trusova and Anna Shcherbakova.
