The leader of the Kazakh club Astana Qazaqstan Team Alexey Lutsenko commented on the victory at the one-day cycling race on the roads of Spain, the press service of the cycling team reports.
The Kazakh cyclist won the first victory of the season the day before, winning almost a minute at the finish line from his closest competitors. Belgian Tim Wellens of Lotto Soudal was 53 seconds back, while his compatriot Loic Vliegen of Intermarche-Wanty-Gobert Materiaux was 57 seconds back.
"I'm very happy that I was able to win my first race of the season. Together with the team, I spent two good weeks at the Teide high altitude training camp and today I felt ready and motivated to try something. I already won the gravel race last year - " Serenissima Gravel" so I knew what to expect today. The race was very tough with a lot of climbs and gravel sections. But the team helped me save a little bit of energy for the decisive part and then I did my best in my attacks. I knew that "Tim Wellens could be the real favorite in this kind of race, so my plan was to attack early so I could go solo. And that plan worked out great. Winning my first race of the season is great! Now, I'm gearing up for my next start -" Vuelta Andalusia," Lutsenko said.
We add that at the end of last year, the Kazakh club presented the updated squad and announced its tasks for 2022. Lutsenko closed last year with victories in Italy and will be the team captain for the Tour de France.
