“I tried to give good emotions to my people, so that they would know what short track is. I wanted everyone to recognize short track and not confuse it with speed skating. To specifically know what short track is, how many laps and different distances, there are relay races, there is a sprint race, there is a long distance race, so that you know all the details.We still have a lot of competitions after the Olympics - the Asian Championship, World Cups, even at such competitions so that we are supported, and not only at the Olympic Games "I hope they will support us. They already write to me that they already know what a short track is. Some saw it on broadcasts for the first time in their lives. I hope I gave everyone pleasant emotions," the short track player said.
According to Azhgaliyev, who took fourth place at the 500-meter distance at the Olympics, being one step away from the medal, he was worried only at the qualification.
“Probably, a little tactic was not enough. But I did everything I could. Before the final, every race was like a battle for me. At the 1/8th I had an Olympic champion. I met him, and the winners of the Olympic Games, there were also very titled athletes. And in the semifinals I had a very strong run, because there was an Olympic champion at this distance and the champion of this Olympiad was 1500. I reached the final, leaving behind two Olympic champions, it was a good achievement. Then I tuned in to the final and did everything I could. And in short track we can never tell the results in advance. It's like a lottery," the athlete commented.
Note that so far the result of Azhgaliyev is the best for Kazakhstan at these Games. He became the first Kazakhstani in history to compete in the individual finals in the 500m short track speed skating at the Olympics.
