Russian speed skater Olga Fatkulina criticized the atmosphere at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.
She was the flag bearer for the Russian national team at the opening ceremony of the Games, R-Sport reports.
On February 17, the skater took 13th place in the 1000-meter race. Earlier, Fatkulina became the tenth in the 500 meters race. The games in Beijing are held in a "bubble" with daily testing of all participants for coronavirus and a strict mask regime.
“I’ll go to the next Olympics with a flag, without any masks. I see how sad the young guys are at these Games, they don’t see the holiday. And I’m sad. She said: “Get me the first ticket from here - here is the bottom! There is still a festive atmosphere at the stadium, but otherwise ... You are everywhere in a mask, you can’t do anything, you won’t recognize anyone. The food in the dining room is not very good. We sit for 23 days, and the food is the same. There wasn't even bread for breakfast today! Lived up.
Glad this eight year tour is over. This makes me happy. I wanted to realize my dreams, to help Russia, but this did not happen. I am an athlete, not a robot. No one is immune from illness or the loss of a loved one. I don't have any despair. It was unpleasant for me after 500 meters that I let people down. Was sad. Then I realized that I showed what I was ready for," Fatkulina said.
Recall that Russia is currently in ninth place in the medal standings (5-9-12). The Olympics will end on February 20.
