Lawyers for the US Figure Skating Association have notified the International Olympic Committee (IOC) of filing an appeal demanding that they award medals in the figure skating team tournament before the end of the Beijing Olympics, R-Sport reports.
According to the source, lawyers for the American skaters, in a letter to IOC President Thomas Bach, said they would apply to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) with the intention of obtaining a decision before Sunday's closing ceremony of the Games. The letter states that "IOC rules require that an awards ceremony be held after the conclusion of each sporting event."

The CAS is expected to make a decision on awarding the American figure skaters the Olympic silver medals for the team tournament on Saturday night.
CAS Secretary General Matthieu Reb confirmed that the court accepted the American side's appeal. He noted that all nine skaters of the US team have applied to the court, and that the hearings are ongoing.
Earlier, the Russian national team, which included single skater Kamila Valieva, won Olympic gold in the team figure skating tournament, the Americans took second place.
Later it became known that Valieva's doping test, taken at the end of December, gave a positive result. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) allowed the skater to participate in the individual Olympic tournament in Beijing. The awards ceremony for the winners of the team competition was not held.
