The Russian lost in a duel for the status of a contender for the WBA champion belt

Russian boxer Mark Urvanov and Venezuelan Angel Rodriguez have determined the mandatory challenger for the WBA world featherweight title (up to 59 kg). The fight became a co-main event of the show from RCC Boxing Promotions.

Urvanov is the third WBA number, Rodriguez is the twelfth. This fight was tried several times, but due to covid restrictions and injuries, it took place only now. Definitely, the wait was worth it.

The Russian boxer will fight against the Brazilian for the WBO world champion belt. The score of the referee's notes looked like this: 115:113 (Rodriguez), 116:112 (Urvanov), 116:112 (Rodriguez). Angel Rodriguez won by split decision and became the mandatory challenger for the WBC world title.

Angel Rodriguez lost only once - at the start of his career, he lost to the Mexican Carlos Diaz. However, the lockdown also became a problem for the boxer - over the past three years he had only two fights, but both times he knocked out his rivals.

Rodriguez next fights WBA champion Roger Gutierrez.
