Canelo to 'make' Alimkhanuly world champion

Mexican star Saul "Canelo" Alvarez could elevate the winner of the title fight between Zhanibek Alimkhanuly and Jaime Munguia to the status of a full-fledged WBO middleweight champion if the fight goes ahead, bbabo.net reports.

The undisputed world super-middleweight champion has not chosen fights for 2022, which means that the American Demetrius Andrade, who claims the title of "interim" WBO champion, can meet the Mexican. But there are other options as well.

"Mungia's promoter Oscar De La Hoya may not let him fight Zhanibek as he says he wants him to fight for a world title next, meaning he wants IBF middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin." - informs the portal bbabo.net.

That is, Mungiya is not the final option for the role of opposition for Alimkhanuly, but there is a "trump card" that can correct the situation.

"Andrade will decide after the fight with Parker whether he will vacate his WBO title at 160 pounds and stay at 168 pounds, or return to middleweight and defend the title against the winner of the fight between Mungia and Alimkhanuly," the publication adds and indicates a bonus for the Kazakhstani.

"It's likely that Andrade will stay at 168 pounds unless he loses to Parker or wins hard. If Andrade chooses not to return to the 160-pound division, then the winner of the Mungiya-Alimkhanuly fight will be crowned full WBO middleweight champion."

As for Alvarez, his role is defined very simply: "We assume that, like everything else at 160 pounds and above, is determined by which option Canelo Alvarez chooses."
