Three football players injured in a bomb explosion on a Brazilian club bus

Three players of the Brazilian club Bahia from Salvador were injured as a result of the detonation of an improvised explosive device on a bus. The club announced this on Twitter.

The explosion thundered upon the arrival of the players for the home match of the Nordeste Cup with Sampaio Correa. Team goalkeeper Danilo Fernandez was hospitalized with injuries to his face and neck, his life is not in danger. Club players Matheus Bahia and Marcelo Sirino were also injured.

The Daily Mail notes that among the suspects are Bahia fans, who probably tried to intimidate the players so that they would play better. The police, however, have not yet arrested anyone.

Bahia were relegated to the second division last season and won only one of their last six matches.

In the match against Sampaio Correa, the club won with a score of 2:0.
