KHL awarded Jokerit a technical defeat in the series with Spartak

The KHL awarded a forfeit defeat to the Finnish Jokerit in the 1/8 finals of the playoffs against Spartak Moscow, the press service of the league reports.

Spartak became the first participant in the 1/4 finals of the Gagarin Cup this season. Earlier on Friday, Jokerit announced their withdrawal from the season due to the events in Ukraine.

Jokerit refused to participate in the KHL playoffs because of the Donbass 30 of the KHL disciplinary regulations, a team that does not show up for a match or disrupts it is awarded a forfeit defeat. The refusal of HC Jokerit to participate in the Gagarin Cup means its absence from the matches of the first round of the playoff series with Spartak, the release says.

The press service of the KHL noted that Jokerit was awarded four technical defeats in a row. The remaining matches of the first round of the playoffs will be played as scheduled.

Jokerit fans urged the club to immediately withdraw from the KHL message.

Spartak advanced to the quarterfinals of the KHL playoffs for the third time in the league and for the first time since 2010. Earlier, in 2009, the Red-Whites defeated SKA St. Petersburg in the 1/8 finals (3-0 in the series), and in 2010 they defeated Dynamo Moscow (3-1). In both cases, in the 1/4 finals, Spartak was inferior to Yaroslavl Lokomotiv.
