WBC canceled all boxing fights under its auspices in Russia because of Ukraine

The World Boxing Council (WBC) announced a ban on holding any fights under its auspices in Russia due to a special operation of Russian troops in Ukraine, the press service of the WBC reports.

As noted, the council's sanctions will remain in effect until the military conflict in Ukraine is resolved peacefully. The WBC also intends to negotiate with other professional boxing organizations to jointly solve the problem.

Russian boxer Abdullaev knocked out the multiple martial arts world champion. At the same time, the WBC emphasizes that these actions are aimed only for the speedy resolution of the military conflict.

“We do not seek to punish the Russian people, with whom we have always had and will always have the closest relations of friendship and brotherhood in unity in the name of peace. We express our sympathy to the Russian boxing community, boxers, trainers, promoters and ring officials, they are not politicians, but they are big supporters of our sport in Russia and beyond, ”the release says.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special operation by Russian troops in the Donbass.

Among the reigning WBC world champions is Russian Artur Beterbiev, who owns the light heavyweight championship belt.
