Kazakhstani marathon runner puts his MP badge up for sale

The famous Kazakh marathon runner Marat Zhylanbaev put up for sale a gold badge received during his deputyship in the maslikhat of Ekibastuz, reports bbabo.net.

The runner posted an announcement about the sale of the item on his pages on Facebook and Instagram, indicating the initial price of 100 thousand tenge.

According to him, he received a badge weighing six grams, having the 375th sample, in 2003, when he was re-elected as a deputy of the Ekibastuz maslikhat.

"What money they used to buy these badges is still a mystery to me. According to the law, deputies of maslikhats are not entitled to gold badges. But then in the akimat all 17 Ekibastuz deputies were given gold badges. We did not pay for them. Now it lies unnecessarily. I have to wear there is no place and no reason for it, besides, I have unpleasant memories associated with this badge. Therefore, I put it up for sale," Zhylanbaev said.

"Each gold badge of a member of parliament costs 347,392 tenge, prices for the fall of 2021. Only 17 of these badges were put into circulation, it seems that our mint made them," he added.

Zhylanbaev is credited as the only athlete to have run solo through the largest deserts in the world. The Kazakhstani crossed such deserts as the Karakum, Sahara, Great Victoria, Nevada, and set seven records, displayed in the Guinness Book of Records. He is the author of his own running technique, which allowed him to turn from an ordinary marathon runner into an extra marathon runner in a year, achieving world-class results. Zhylanbaev was called the hardiest and strongest person on Earth. In 1995, he left the big sport and took up social activities.
