Former footballer and coach of Zenit Zavidonov dies at 88

Former Zenit midfielder and coach Stanislav Zavidonov died on Tuesday at the age of 87, according to the St. Petersburg club's official website.

Zavidonov came to Zenit in 1957, and since 1959 the midfielder has been regularly called up to the USSR Olympic team, where he once had to patronize the Brazilian Pele during a match.

Zavidonov scored 31 goals in the USSR Championship, and in 1962 he was recognized as the country's strongest central midfielder.
