CNN and HBO will release a film about Navalny

CNN Films and HBO Max will release a documentary about Alexei Navalny, according to The Hoollywood Reporter.

The film is directed by Canadian documentary filmmaker Daniel Roer, best known for his film When We Were Brothers about musician Robbie Robertson. In North America, a new tape called "Navalny" will be broadcast by CNN, while HBO Max and CNN+ will receive streaming rights.

From the description of the film it follows that the tape is dedicated to the events of August 2020, when Alexei Navalny was hospitalized in Omsk. At the moment, the premiere date has not been announced.

In 2020, the plane in which Navalny was flying made an emergency landing in Omsk, he was taken from the airport to the hospital. Doctors called the main diagnosis a metabolic disorder.

Subsequently, Navalny was transported to Germany, where doctors announced that he had been poisoned with substances from the Novichok group, but no relevant evidence was provided to the Russian side. Moscow denies Western accusations of involvement in Navalny's poisoning. The Russian authorities adhere to the position that Western countries are using the situation with Navalny as an excuse for sanctions and other pressure on Moscow.

Navalny is currently serving his sentence in a penal colony in the Vladimir region. Twice conditionally convicted, he was put on the wanted list in Russia for repeated violations of the conditions of serving a sentence. He was detained on January 17, 2021 at Sheremetyevo Airport after returning from Germany, and on February 2, the court decided to replace his probation with a real one.

At the end of December 2021, Navalny was removed from the register as prone to escape.
