Russia - Netflix released a new project by Shonda Rhimes about a Russian who outwitted the whole world

Russia (bbabo.net), - February 11, the new project of the legendary Shonda Rhimes - the series "Inventing Anna" will be released on Netflix. Who does not know - this is a woman who made herself, founded the ShondaLand company and conquered the highest peak in her profession. Shonda is a writer/director, producer and showrunner. The series Scandal, Grey's Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder and other projects are her work.

A few years ago, Shonda signed an agreement with Netflix. In the largest online cinema, many projects of different levels are released. But there are those on which the stigma "quality mark" can be put with your eyes closed. These are the ones created by Shonda Rhimes, who made the original Bridgerton series for the online giant - it was discussed all over the world. "Inventing Anna" is the second project, and will be talked about no less. Especially in our country, because one of the two main characters - Anna Sorokina (abroad she calls herself Delvi) - is Russian. Girl from the Moscow region. In this role - Julia Garner. The audience knows her from the series "Ozark" and the film "Assistant".

Anna Sorokina-Delvey is a beast that can be called "Bender in a skirt": she fools Europeans and Americans faster than they can understand that they have been fooled. The second heroine - a pregnant journalist Vivian - investigates the story of a fraudster, thinking about her more than about her unborn child. She is played by Anna Chlumsky. Both actresses have made their characters so unusual that even if you want to, you won't repeat them. And the fact that Vivian is expecting a baby is not accidental. This is the idea of what our children will be like. "My article is about the scam that has become the American dream of the 21st century. It's about stealing our ideals, it's about why cultural scams can't be eliminated," says Vivian. Her article, like the entire series, is dedicated to how social networks have become the main cultural component of an entire generation.

It remains to be added that the series is based on the true events described in the newspaper article before giving the floor to Shonda Rhimes.

How would you characterize the series "Inventing Anna"?

Shonda Rhimes: This is a mini-series about a crooked heroine of our day. Anna is a young woman who arrives in New York, mysteriously declares herself a wealthy European heiress and... takes over the entire city. I am fascinated by her. I think she is an amazing character.

Why is the story told in a direct way, but from the point of view of a journalist?

Shonda Rhimes: I specifically wanted to show Anna's story through the eyes of Vivian, an employee of a major publication. After all, the entire series is inspired by a real journalist who wrote an article about the "fake millionaire" - Jessica Pressler. I wondered how she revealed all these details, how she pieced together all the information to put together the image of this woman. You don't really understand who Anna is until you really see her through the eyes of a reporter. In addition, Jessica Pressler told me the most interesting detail in the world, which was that she had to finish her article before she had a baby, and the deadline was coming, and this could happen at any minute. And I liked the idea: a working woman who "delivered an article" before the real birth happened.

Why does the series have such a name?

Shonda Rhimes: One of the reasons for the title "Inventing Anna" is that I don't think the viewer will ever really get to know Anna. He watches and listens to each character's story as they talk about Anna Vivian. And Anna herself never tells the truth about herself. The viewer sees only what she told other people about herself. And this is a fabrication.

How did you first read the article about Anna Delvey?

Shonda Rhimes: I was training when I came across an article in New York magazine. And I remember that I literally jumped off the treadmill, called my office and said that there was a plot that we need to get our hands on. I was literally obsessed with this story, and experienced excitement even from the fact that I want to tell it, and I know exactly how to do it.

But why is Anna's story so appealing - to you and others?

Shonda Rhimes: There are several reasons. This is partly due to the fact that Anna is somewhat of a consummate scammer. But there is something about this idea of a young woman trying to make her way in a world she cannot reach that we can all identify with. Villains are often charming and one can't help but admire them. People were so willing to believe what Anna said about herself without questioning it as she made her way in this world. Most of us rethink ourselves when we go to college or go to work. And that's pretty much what Anna did, only she did it better than anyone I've ever met.

Before writing the script, you did a lot of research...Shonda Rhimes: Luckily we had journalist Jessica Pressler "on board" - a treasure trove of information. But it also had the benefit of being able to talk to many real people who were involved in the story. I had an amazing video interview with Anna from prison - Jessica sent it to me. I had the opportunity to chat with Anna's friend Neff and get to know her better. So many people wanted to talk to us about Anna that it allowed us to get a true picture and answer the questions that had accumulated. And, by the way, we wrote the script for the series as Anna's case developed. For example, we wrote an episode about a lawsuit while the trial was going on. I remember sitting together in our "writer's room" while one of our writers was in court in New York and chatting to us about what was going on so we could finish the script.

How do you think audiences perceive good and evil characters in films?

Shonda Rhimes: I don't think there ever was such a thing as good or bad people. And I do not think that the character can be classified as good or bad. There are no villains. There are only misunderstood people in the world.

How did you assemble the ensemble cast for the series?

Shonda Rhimes: It was exciting and fun. I didn't know how we would find actors to play real people. We wanted to convey the essence of many of them in a way that felt respectful, but at the same time, their characters told what we needed for the story, because to convey everything in detail is quite tiring for everyone. Luckily we have amazing actors at ShondaLand that we always work with. But it was also interesting to meet new people. Just such completely created the images of journalists - Vivian's colleagues in the magazine "Manhattan". We found them among real former journalists who lived on unemployment benefits.

And how did the real Anna Delvey react to the series?

Shonda Rhimes: Anna was very aware that her story was coming to the screen. And I wanted her to know that we are not telling the story of her life step. Moreover, if you think about it, she is the only person who did not win anything from the current situation. I mean, we made the series, and everyone else got their dividends. Some of her victims wrote books, others entered into contracts on television. Some have become more successful in business, some have become emotionally stronger. Anna ended up in jail. So I feel like a person protecting her feelings. And it was important for me to make sure that we didn't just take a story and tell it without any respect for it. Not! What was important to us was what the audience would ultimately take away from the show.
