Traumatologist Sergey Angarkhaev, in a conversation with, suggested that serious mistakes were made in the treatment of Alexander Pushkin, who was wounded in a duel with Dantes. According to Angarkhaev, washing the intestines could lead to organ failure in the poet's body.
“The enema may have done the last thing. Imagine that water enters the intestines under pressure: all feces enter the abdominal cavity. This can cause toxic shock when severe inflammation develops in the body. The blood ceases to perform its functions, and multiple organ failure begins, that is, the failure of all organs, ”the doctor explained.
Angarkhaev did not rule out that in the conditions of modern medicine, Pushkin could survive with a 90% probability.
“It’s a pity when you start to wonder how he was treated. Tears well up in my eyes," he added.
As a treatment, the wounded Pushkin was given leeches to relieve the temperature, and an enema was also prescribed.
Pushkin died on January 29 (February 10), 1837 from a wound received in a duel. He was 37 years old.
