The Yeltsin Center assessed the chances of commuting the sentence to the guard who spoiled the picture

Director of the Yeltsin Center art gallery in Yekaterinburg, Ilya Shipilovskikh, admitted in a conversation with that he “humanly” understands the security guard who painted eyes on the painting of Kazimir Malevich’s student Anna Leporskaya. However, Shipilovskikh is convinced that if Alexander Vasiliev, accused of vandalism, was aware of his actions, then he must have the courage to be punished.

“As a human being, I can understand this person. He saw this during his service (according to the media, Vasilyev is a veteran of the Afghan and the first Chechen wars - note that you don’t wish anyone. This left an imprint on his personality and further actions that he can take. It is very sad that such things happen, ”Shipilovskikh noted.

According to the director of the art gallery, law enforcement agencies are likely to find elements of a crime in the guard's act.

“I want to remind you that it was the Ministry of Culture that asked the prosecutor's office to return to this issue. Apparently, they have an idea about the danger of the act committed by this person. In the sense that he encroached on a work of art, vandalism, on the other hand, implies just socially dangerous actions. Apparently, according to the Ministry of Culture, there was some kind of long-term effect in his actions, ”concluded the director of the art gallery.

In December 2021, Alexander Vasilyev, security guard at the Yeltsin Center, damaged a painting by Kazemir Malevich's student Anna Leporskaya. In February, he officially became a suspect in the vandalism case. He has been given a medical examination.

Earlier, the Yeltsin Center expressed doubt that the damaged painting would rise in price 10 times after the incident.
