Izvestia: the new law on tourism will lead to a rise in travel prices

The new law on tourism may increase the burden on tour operators and lead to an increase in prices for travel in Russia by up to 20%. Izvestia writes about it.

The discussion of the draft law on tourism took place on the government portal from December 29 last year to February 2, 2022. At the same time, the document received a huge amount of negative feedback.

The main innovation is compensation for each tourist in the amount of 40 thousand rubles. for the canceled tour. Experts note that the idea of guaranteed compensation is good in itself, but tourists want to return the entire amount, which is often much more than 40 thousand rubles. Therefore, this moment still needs to be worked out, otherwise unscrupulous tour operators, from whom tourists have bought expensive tours, will make their task easier. For example, more than 100 thousand rubles were spent, but only 40 thousand rubles will be returned anyway.

Experts in the field of tourism are confident that an increase in the cost of tours in Russia will definitely occur if a new bill is adopted. The new law will only increase the financial burden on existing tour operators and virtually deprive new ones of the opportunity to enter the market.

So, after the adoption of the law, tour operators for domestic tourism will begin to leave the market. The level of competition will decrease, business will become larger. After that, prices for the final consumer will rise up to 20%.

At the end of December, the head of Rostourism, Zarina Doguzova, announced that the agency was preparing changes to tourism legislation that would allow a tourist to receive a minimum guaranteed compensation in the event of a bankruptcy of a travel company.
