Russia - Defense Ministry to restore civil airport in Transbaikalia

Russia (bbabo.net) - The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Monday that specialists from the departmental Military Construction Company will restore one of the remote civilian airports in the region in the Trans-Baikal Territory.

"To date, survey work has been completed, geodetic exploration has been carried out, and preparations are underway for the transfer of special equipment and residential modules to the construction site," the ministry said.

They added that due to the inaccessibility of the facility, it was necessary to develop a special logistics scheme for the delivery of equipment and building materials there. So, dump trucks, front loaders, excavators, soil rollers and bulldozers were delivered to the work site by road. The equipment was first transported to the Tynda station of the Baikal-Amur Mainline, and then on railway platforms to its destination in the village of Chara in the Trans-Baikal Territory.

It is known that the civil airport is located in the middle of the taiga in the Kalarsky district, 1.8 thousand km from Chita. Due to the geographical features of the area, land communication with the main part of the Trans-Baikal Territory is difficult here. Therefore, the airport restored by the Ministry of Defense will be used for regular passenger and cargo intra- and inter-regional flights.

The military department emphasized that a large-scale reconstruction of a small air harbor in Transbaikalia is being carried out as part of the national project "Comprehensive plan for the modernization and expansion of the main infrastructure" of the federal project "Development of regional airports."
