Virgin Galactic's revenue up nearly 1300% in a year

For 2021, the revenue of the American company Virgin Galactic, engaged in space tourism, grew by 1283%. This is stated in the company's report.

At the end of 2021, the company's revenue reached $3.29 million. For the entire 2020, it was $238 thousand, that is, the growth was more than 1283%. At the same time, the net loss decreased and at the end of the year it amounted to $352.9 million, which is 45.3% less than in 2020.

For the fourth quarter of 2021, the company received $141,000 in revenue. For the same period in 2020, there was no revenue at all. However, analysts had expected revenue to exceed $300,000.

Virgin Galactic has forecast free cash flow to be negative in the first quarter of 2022, between $75 million and $85 million.

Virgin Galactic is an American company that is part of the Virgin Group, which plans to organize tourist suborbital space flights and launches of small artificial satellites. In the future, the company plans to offer its customers orbital flights as well.

On July 11, the launch of the VSS Unity rocket plane took place with 70-year-old British billionaire and founder of Virgin Galactic Richard Branson on board. The launch was made from the runway of the first private US spaceport Spaceport America, located in the state of New Mexico. The day after Branson's successful flight, shares of Virgin Galactic rose on the Moscow stock exchange from $49 to $57.

Nine days after Branson, Blue Origin's New Shepard spacecraft carrying Amazon founder Jeff Bezos completed its first suborbital flight. Both flights of billionaires have become a significant event for a private space initiative.
