US says it does not seek to disrupt Russian energy supplies

Deputy National Security Adviser to the US President Duleep Singh said that the United States is not seeking sanctions against the Russian Federation to provoke interruptions in energy supplies to the world market. The representative of the United States announced this at a briefing, RIA Novosti writes.

“We deliberately expanded our sanctions to have a major impact on the Russian economy while minimizing damage to the US and our allies and partners. Our sanctions are not designed to disrupt the current energy flow from Russia to the outside world,” Singh explained.

Earlier it was reported that the UK is working with allies to cut Russia off from SWIFT. The Financial Times wrote that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is pushing “very strongly” for Russia to be cut off from the SWIFT international payments system. According to the publication, the British prime minister hopes that this will deal a serious blow to Russian banks and their ability to transact outside their borders.

US President Joe Biden on February 24 announced the introduction of new sanctions and export restrictions against Russia against the backdrop of a special operation to protect Donbass.
