Minimum injuries

In the Republic of Crimea, six years ago, the incidence of oncology was higher than in Russia as a whole. According to this indicator, the republic fell into the top 10 regions of the country. Since 2019, the situation on the peninsula has improved significantly thanks to the implementation of the regional project "Fight against cancer" of the national project "Health".

Early detection of cancer has increased to 56.1 percent, while mortality has decreased by almost 5 percent (from 2017 to 2020).

Over the past three years, several dozen units of new equipment have been received, said the deputy head physician of the Crimean Republican Oncological Clinical Dispensary named after V.I. Efetov Sergey Morozov. The branch of the oncological dispensary in Kerch also received new equipment. “In the future, we can also accept patients from Taman, since it is closer for them to get here than to Anapa or Krasnodar,” Sergey Morozov notes.

Importantly, the oncology dispensary now has expert-class equipment that makes it possible to detect malignant tumors of the digestive and respiratory systems at an early stage and to determine the depth of their damage. Previously, there was no such equipment in Crimea not only in state institutions, but also in private clinics.

The capabilities of the children's oncological service have also increased significantly. Every year in the Crimea about 60 children get cancer on average, which corresponds to the average incidence in Russia. Little patients are treated at the Department of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology of the Republican Children's Clinical Hospital.

Yulia Belkina, chief freelance pediatric specialist oncologist-hematologist of the Ministry of Health of Crimea, said that with the introduction of modern, high-tech methods, most patients can be completely cured. A child with a suspected malignant neoplasm receives a complete examination during the first two days. A CT scanner works around the clock here, which allows to reduce radiation exposure by almost half.

There is also a new endoscopic equipment that allows diagnostics with biopsy taking in patients of any age, including newborns. There is equipment for endoscopic surgery, which makes it possible to remove the tumor, biopsy with minimal trauma. Allows a small patient to start chemotherapy no later than five days after surgery.

A cancer center to be opened in the village

At the end of January, the sixth outpatient cancer care center in the region was opened in Samara on the basis of city hospital No. 6. Here, 280,000 people will be able to undergo a full-fledged examination free of charge.

Thanks to the well-earned center, people now go through all the clarifying diagnostics in one place in a short time, which sometimes saves their lives. Doctors, if necessary, record patients in the regional cancer center. All equipment is connected to a single digital system. Therefore, the centers quickly transmit data to patients. Samarans no longer need to go and make an appointment themselves.According to Andrey Orlov, the head physician of the Samara Regional Clinical Oncology Center, the work of the center not only increases the availability of high-quality diagnostics, but also relieves the burden on polyclinics. Cancer care centers received more than 38,000 patients in 2021. Thanks to them, the region managed to increase the indicator of early detection of oncological diseases: today it is higher than the average Russian level.

Minister of Health of the region Armen Benyan said that by 2024 there will be 12 such centers in the region. Among them - and in Kinel-Cherkassy, one of the largest villages in Russia.
