The Minister of Internal Affairs of Russia, Police General Vladimir Kolokoltsev, spoke in favor of recognizing the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, but made his proposal.

According to him, this should be done not within the current borders, but within those that belonged to the Donetsk and Lugansk regions before the Ukrainian military began bombing.

"It is necessary to recognize these republics, their legal personality, but I would like to make an amendment - they should be recognized within the administrative boundaries in which these republics and their peoples were before the occupation by the armed forces of Ukraine. Namely, from Mariupol and ending with those historical borders," - said the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs at an extraordinary meeting of the Security Council of Russia.
