Sri Lankan authorities have returned Muslims the right to a decent burial

Sri Lankan authorities have lifted a controversial rule requiring Muslims to bury their loved ones who have died from the coronavirus without funeral rituals in a remote area designated by the government of the country.

Last year, the Sri Lankan authorities first forcibly cremated all those who died from covid, but after a loud scandal, they abandoned this practice, which offends the religious feelings of Muslims.

Instead, the country's government allocated a remote plot of land where they began to bury those dying from the coronavirus - separately from all the other dead. Relatives were prohibited from attending the funeral and performing any funeral rites, and the site was guarded by the military.

Because of these restrictions, many elderly Muslims who contracted the coronavirus were afraid to seek medical help and record the fact of their illness - they did not want to be buried in case of death without observing the canons of Islam.

Now, the authorities of Sri Lanka have also canceled this order - finally, Muslims will be able to conduct Janazah prayer and proper burial of the dead in their confessional cemeteries, informs bbabo.net with reference to France24.
