Israeli PM promises Germany to replace 10% of Russian gas from 2023

Greater Middle East (bbabo.net), - Israel is likely to start exporting natural gas to Europe as early as 2023, making up about 10% of the volume lost due to reduced supplies from Russia, said Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid in Berlin on September 12 after a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

At a joint briefing by the heads of government of the two countries, Yair Lapid stressed that Israel is participating in European efforts to replace Russian natural gas. He added that many emerging technology companies - the so-called. "startups" are active in the field of renewable energy in his country, and Israel will also cooperate with Germany, which is an "innovation superpower".

Among other things, Olaf Scholz said Germany is modernizing its air defenses with the Israeli-developed Arrow-3 missile system. In this regard, Yair Lapid stated that for now this is only a "possible deal", but in any case, they expect Israel to play a role in the development of Germany's defense capabilities, especially in the field of air defense, and they are discussing this with their German partners a little whether not daily.

Regarding the fact that the Chairman of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas in August at a briefing in Berlin with the German Chancellor compared Israel's policy towards the Palestinians with the Holocaust, Yair Lapid stressed that Olaf Scholz, who rejected the statement of the Palestinian President only after a joint briefing, clearly distanced himself from Abbas's "just awful statement", from "a phrase for which he doesn't deserve to be applauded".

Yair Lapid and Olaf Scholz stressed that the Nazi attempt to destroy the Jewish people was unprecedented in human history and cannot be compared to anything else.

Yair Lapid stressed that the perceptions that arose from the Palestinian leader's statement in Berlin also characterize the textbooks offered to Palestinian children. In this way, Palestinians are incited from childhood to "hatred" from which the "civilized world" cannot remain aloof, the Israeli Prime Minister said.

Olaf Scholz and Yair Lapid also showed that the leaderships of Germany and Israel still disagree on the extension of the 2015 international agreement with Iran to limit Iran's nuclear program.

Olaf Scholz stressed that in the near future, although Iran is not expected to accept the proposals of the European countries participating in the agreement - the UK, France and Germany - to extend the agreement, there is a chance for progress, so the European parties are "patient."

On the contrary, Yair Lapid stated that the 2015 agreement failed and that it would be a grave mistake to return to it. According to him, in support of his assessment of the situation, he shared secret intelligence information with the German Chancellor.
