Algiers to become Moscow's first African twin city

Greater Middle East (bbabo.net), - Moscow and Algeria will become sister cities. This was reported to RIA Novosti by the governor of the Algerian capital, Mohamed Abdenur Rabehi.

“We are going to sign a document on sister city partnership between the city of Algiers and Moscow. Now we are also preparing a partnership project with St. Petersburg, between two polytechnic universities, Algiers and St. Petersburg,” Rabehi said.

Thus, Algiers will become Moscow's first African sister city.

Recall that Russia and Algeria have close strategic relations. Algeria has also filed an official application to join the BRICS: back in August, Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboun said that his country was interested in joining the BRICS.

In his opinion, Algeria as a whole meets the criteria of the alliance. Moscow fully supported Algeria's intention to join the BRICS, as stated by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.

“We have excellent relations with Algeria and maintain a very confidential dialogue. This issue is being discussed as part of the collective work in BRICS. We welcome the desire of our friends, partners and like-minded people to join the work in such formats as BRICS and SCO, and others where we are actively working,” he stated.

In the context of Russia's desire to build a multipolar world, the importance of bilateral cooperation with Algeria in the context of relations with the Arab world will only increase.

Algeria's position, which is balanced, is fully shared by Moscow. Algeria in the regional and international arenas is guided by classical ideas about the priority of national interests.

After the start of the NWO, Algeria, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, took a "balanced, objective, balanced position."

For example, Algeria abstained from voting on the anti-Russian resolution of the UN General Assembly. The North African state did not join the sanctions against Russia and continued to develop cooperation with Moscow.
