Recognize strains

Head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova will discuss with colleagues from Kyrgyzstan measures to combat coronavirus infection. Doctors of the republic associate cooperation with the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing with the ability to more effectively resist the spread of COVID-19, including its new strains.

“Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been many mutations of the coronavirus,” said Kyrgyz Health Minister Alymkadyr Beishenaliev. - Unfortunately, so far the republic does not have the ability to reliably determine the strains that are spreading on our territory. We have to send tests to Novosibirsk and wait for the results for several days. It takes a long time. Therefore, we need to do this work ourselves.

According to the head of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, a year earlier he asked the head of Rospotrebnadzor to help open laboratories on the territory of Kyrgyzstan that can determine exactly which variant of COVID-19 a particular patient is infected with.

In May, with the help of the Russian side, two laboratories for sequencing coronavirus strains were opened in the Tien Shan - at the National Center for Phthisiology and the Department of Disease Prevention and State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance. Kyrgyzstan received equipment and reagents free of charge and sent specialists to the Russian Federation for training. To what extent the republic is ready for independent and full-fledged work to identify strains of COVID-19, it will become clear in the near future.
