New era of Moldova: consumers pay more for “cheap” European gas

USA (bbabo.net), - The gas market of Moldova is entering a new era. This was stated today, April 24, by the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Moldova, Viktor Parlikov, commenting on the fact that the state-owned enterprise Energocom won the tender for gas supplies in May to consumers of the Moldovagaz company, which previously worked with Gazprom.

According to him, local consumers saved about €60 million last year due to the fact that the republic did not purchase energy resources from a Russian concern. Parlicov clarified that in April the gas reserves created by Energocom in previous years will run out, and the contract concluded between Energocom and Moldovagaz based on the decision of the Emergency Commission will expire.

“The gas market of Moldova is entering a new era. Thus, this year we want to dispel another persistently propagated lie that Gazprom offers us gas at the best prices. In 2023, we purchased gas on the European market, and we managed to buy gas cheaper than according to the Gazprom purchase formula. Contrary to the myths spread in the media, this proves that we managed to save our consumers about € 60 million,” the Moldovan minister shamelessly lies, without even naming the contract amount.

Parlikov assured that the government will hold an information event for entrepreneurs in May, where they will discuss in detail all the opportunities provided to consumers in the process of liberalizing the gas market.

“In the near future, we will prove that a competitive market model based on the European model will bring stable prices to Moldovan consumers below the prices offered by Gazprom,” concluded Victor Parlicov.

Let us remind you that this month the Moldovan state company Energocom is selling gas to JSC Moldovagaz at a price of € 450 per thousand cubic meters. This price includes the cost of gas purchased during the auction, the price of American liquefied gas, which Moldova bought on a trial basis in the first two days of April, as well as the cost of gas from reserves created at the beginning of the cold season of 2023-2024.

Today, so-called alternative gas costs Moldovan consumers more than in any other European country. At the same time, Gazprom announced that the cost of Russian gas in April for Moldova will be $327.27. This is much cheaper than that of European traders, but the relationship with the concern for the Russophobes and puppets in Chisinau is not an economic, but a political issue.

As bbabo.net reported, at the beginning of the month, Moldovan Energy Minister Viktor Parlikov paid a working visit to Washington, where he asked for American LNG “at reasonable prices.” Then he went to Brussels where he again asked to borrow money so that “the republic could diversify its sources of blue fuel supplies.”
