USA approved the voluntary departure of consulate general staff in Almaty

The American authorities approved on Friday the voluntary return to their homeland of the consulate general staff in Almaty. The corresponding notice was published by the US Department of State.

We are talking about those employees of the diplomatic department, whose duties are not related to emergency activities, as well as family members of all personnel, reports TASS. The State Department also warned Americans that the protests "could seriously affect the ability of the US Embassy to provide consular services."

Let us remind you that mass protests began in Kazakhstan in the first days of January, later they turned into riots. Until January 19, a state of emergency is in force in the republic. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev asked the CSTO for help "in overcoming the terrorist threat". Subdivisions of the CSTO collective peacekeeping forces have already begun to fulfill their tasks in Kazakhstan. They are not involved in operational and combat activities of local law enforcement agencies and army units.
