Electric crossovers Volkswagen ID.5 and ID.5 GTX put into production

Volkswagen began production of the ID.5 and ID.5 GTX electric crossovers unveiled last fall at the Zwickau plant, which has been converted to produce electric vehicles. For this purpose, approximately 1.2 billion euros have been invested in it since 2018.

This year, Volkswagen's electric vehicles will be assembled at plants in Emden (ID.4), Hanover (ID.Buzz) and Chattanooga (ID.4). Volkswagen has laid the groundwork for 2022 production of 1.2 million electric vehicles based on the MEB platform at its facilities in Europe, the US and China, Volkswagen said in a statement.

The new Volkswagen ID.5 coupe-crossover and the sporty ID.5 GTX are built on the modular MEB platform. Volkswagen ID.5 will be powered by a 174 hp electric motor. on the rear axle, and the ID.5 GTX is equipped with an all-wheel drive system - two electric motors mounted on the front and rear axles. The electric car is equipped with a traction battery with a capacity of 77 kWh, the power reserve reaches 520 km. Fast charging power can reach 135 kW.

The older version of the Volkswagen ID.5 GTX has three 295 hp electric motors. and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds.

By 2030, at least 70% of all Volkswagen sales in Europe are expected to come from electric vehicles.
