Intel wants to make GPUs more energy efficient and give users access to zettaflops computing

Intel has not yet managed to bring Arc graphics cards to the market, but is already gathering a new team to work on other graphics solutions.

According to a job posting on the company's website, the company is looking for a senior design engineer to develop low-power GPU architectures for next-generation portable devices.

Of course, there is no particular specificity in the text of the vacancy, but you can also find a curious line there.

Our mission is to make zeta-scale computing accessible to every person on the planet by the end of this decade, and to entertain, educate and connect billions of people through fluid visual experiences.

Here it is worth highlighting a piece about calculating the zeta scale. Intel means performance in zettaflops (1 zettaflops - 1000 exaflops). That is, apparently, the company wants consumer graphics solutions to have performance calculated in zettaflops or be approximately at this level in a conditional seven to eight years. How realistic this is is hard to say. For example, in ten years, the performance of Nvidia video cards has grown from 3.2 TFLOPS for the GTX 680 to 40 TFLOPS for the RTX 3090 Ti, that is, more than an order of magnitude. But even up to 1 zettaflops at such a pace is clearly far away.
