Enthusiast made GameCube portable console based on fake 2005 render

A user with the nickname GingerOfOz managed to realize the Nintendo GameCube Advance handheld console, images of which have appeared on the Internet since 2005. The 17-year-old render was found to be a fake, but the enthusiast managed to create a functional version of the device.

GingerOfOz found an artist who was responsible for the 2005 layout. His name is Demond and he rendered in Autodesk 3D Studio Max as a practice assignment. He also created a PSP2 image that appeared on the Internet. Demond then worked for Ubisoft and Epic Games.

GingerOfOz says that when creating the console, he was forced to replace the hinge, which functions on the principle of the Nintendo DS and control buttons, made in the style of a portable 3DS.

The 2022 Nintendo GameCube Advance has a disc drive, but it does not function. The creator explains that the drive parts were too bulky to modify the console. GingerOfOz inserted the disc into a gaming device to make it look like the 2005 renders.

An enthusiast used a Nintendo Wii motherboard to create a portable device, which consumes less power, is smaller, easier to modify and more affordable than a similar component for the GameCube. GingerOfOz has made efforts to add unique GameCube software to the console, including a boot logo.

The battery life of the device is about one and a half hours.

In the summer of 2020, GingerOfOz introduced the Wii Boy Color portable console, which can run games from the GameCube and Wii. The device has a 3.5-inch 480p IPS display and a game storage drive. The console works offline for 2-3 hours. It features a USB-C port for charging and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Last May, Cityle turned a GameCube into a PC. The device is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 4500U processor, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card, 16 GB of RAM, and a 2 TB SSD.
