MIPT will take part in projects for the development of the Arctic zone of Russia

Rector of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology Dmitry Livanov signed a cooperation agreement with the head of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, Alexei Chekunkov, and the Acting General Director of the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, Nikolai Zapryagaev. This agreement will allow the university to participate in the development of mineral deposits, the development of up-to-date means of communication based on space telecommunication technologies, and environmental activities related to energy in remote settlements of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation.

Chekunov calls MIPT a leader in the creation of world-class technologies, and cooperation with the institute is strategically important. He notes that for the development of the Far Eastern and northern territories of the country, the technologies of energy supply to hard-to-reach remote regions are important.

It is extremely important that the implementation of projects in the Arctic zone and the Far East is carried out with the help of domestic technologies and equipment, Livanov emphasizes.

MIPT's cooperation with research and industry systems will allow for cutting-edge developments that are designed for rapid introduction into production and replication. Livanov is sure that this task is the most urgent. In his opinion, all the projects announced during the meeting will be implemented quickly. Phystech has its own developments that use Russian components, are not inferior in quality to foreign alternatives and have a lower cost of manufacture and operation.

MIPT participates in projects for the development of the Far East as part of the Talents in the Regions initiative of the Priority 2030 program. The university not only educates and trains specialists in these subjects, but also trains personnel for regional institutes and universities. MIPT has presented associations with the Far Eastern Federal University and Murmansk Technical State University, and North-Eastern State University is likely to join the program in 2023.

Chekunov calls the formation of the track "Priority 2030. Far East" an opportunity for universities to get out of isolation and be participants in the "mainstream of the scientific and educational agenda."
