“As an alleged pheromone, androstenol, a pig sex hormone, is usually added to such compositions,” the expert explained. “Contained, among other things, in wild boar saliva, celery cytoplasm and truffle mushrooms.”

According to Berlyanskaya, perfumes, which, according to manufacturers, contain pheromones or aphrodisiacs, are a marketing ploy.

“An aphrodisiac is, by definition, a substance that enhances sexual desire if you take it internally. I strongly do not recommend drinking perfume, they even specifically write about it on the packaging, ”she added.

The specialist did not deny that aromas can emotionally affect people, but noted that "there is not a single smell that would act on a person like a pheromone on insects."
