By the end of 2022, the increase in prices for new cars will be 12-15%, Sergey Burgazliev, an independent consultant on the automotive industry, said in an interview.

According to the expert, the rise in price is connected both with the high demand for cars and with the increase in the cost of their production. Last year, the cost of steel, polymers, rubber and other raw materials used in the automotive industry increased markedly. Additional spending on the purchase of electronic components has also risen due to the global shortage of semiconductors.

“Given the massive shortage of chips, their manufacturers have sharply raised the prices of their products. Tariffs for logistics services have also grown significantly - by 30-40% in some areas. Naturally, automakers include these costs in the cost of cars,” Burgazliev explained and noted that automakers would raise the RRP every few months so as not to scare away potential buyers with a sharp rise in price.

As early as January 2022, 30 car brands represented in Russia immediately increased car prices. In early February, price lists were rewritten by more than ten manufacturers.
