Russia - In Germany, found a rider and a horse without a head from the dark ages of Europe

Russia (bbabo.net), - In Germany, in the city of Knittlingen, a burial of a man and an adult horse without a head was found. Archaeologists date the find to the era of the dark ages of European history 476 - 750 AD.

According to Live Science, archaeologist Folke Damminger believes that the man was buried about 1,400 years ago during the reign of the Frankish Merovingian kings and had a high status. Therefore, a horse is buried with him, along with a representative of the medieval elite.

Note that this burial is not typical for medieval Europe. Burials with horses are most often found among the nomadic peoples of Eurasia - the Scythians, Alans, Sarmatians, Huns and other nomads. Ancient and Eastern authors describe the sacrifice of horses at the funeral of noble pagan Slavs.

Scientists believe that during the burials, horses were assigned different, but well-defined roles.

Horse-carriers with rich harness for wagons were supposed to deliver the dead from the world of the living to the other world. The horses of the "main saddle" belonged to the owners during their lifetime and were supposed to serve the owner after death. These animals were placed in the central burial or in a separate horse grave. Offering horses - were young animals and mares, and horses for the funeral feast went to a funeral dinner. Their remains are found in the moat - around the ancient barrows.
