Jiří Kubeš, a doctor from the Proton Therapy Center in Prague, told the Daily Express about this.

Most head and neck cancers are squamous cell carcinomas. When talking about oncological disease in these parts of the body, doctors, in particular, mean the areas of the throat, larynx, nose, sinuses, and mouth. Healthy cells in this case begin to grow uncontrollably, transforming into a tumor. If it germinates and spreads to other parts of the body, and does not remain localized, then we are talking about a malignant tumor.

The insidiousness of neck and head cancer lies in the fact that people can explain almost any of its symptoms by other reasons. For example, pain in the gums - due to poor oral hygiene, swelling of the neck - due to incorrect posture during sleep, and the like. However, "a sore throat that lasts more than two weeks or is accompanied by any change in voice or hoarseness should be a cause for concern," warns Jiří Kubeš. According to him, when this type of cancer is detected at an early stage, in most cases it indicates a favorable prognosis.
