Gunzburg explained why the new COVID-19 vaccine will have to be administered twice

Director of the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology Alexander Gintsburg spoke about the new Russian vaccine against coronavirus. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“The vaccine will be given twice, this is done to multiply the memory cells. Two injections are almost always given if it is a non-live vaccine, so that there are memory cells and to increase the specificity of antibodies, ”he said, specifying that there will be no live virus in the new drug.

The specialist added that the vaccine developed on the new platform will protect against several variants of the virus.

“The vaccine will be polyvalent. We will be combining different antigenic variants of the s-protein, including “delta” and “omicron,” Gunzburg explained.

Earlier it was reported that the Ministry of Health of Russia issued permission to the Gamaleya Center to conduct phases I-II clinical trials of a vaccine against COVID-19 based on VLP virus-like particles.
