Searchs and interrogation

Solovy's wife Svetlana told the RIA Novosti agency that the search in their apartment began early in the morning and lasted more than seven hours.

“From 7:30 to 15:30, a search was conducted in our apartment. All equipment was confiscated,” she said. The woman added that her husband and son were taken to the Investigative Committee in the status of witnesses in a criminal case.

Svetlana said that she had no right to say what case her husband and son were involved in, since she had given a signature. According to her, she still does not know anything, since all means of communication were confiscated from Valery and Pavel.

Later, the political scientist's wife, in an interview with Ekho Moskvy, said that her husband nevertheless got in touch after he was taken away for interrogation. According to Svetlana, her husband told her that the interrogation would end soon and he would return home.

Searches also took place at the home of Valery Soloviev's nephew, Fyodor, who works as an editor at Match TV. He told the Telegram channel “Caution, news” that he left for the office in the morning, and only his girlfriend remained in the apartment.

At about seven in the morning, investigators arrived at the house, 15 security officials threatened to break down the door if they were not opened. According to Fyodor, the search lasted about six hours, they also confiscated all his equipment, old floppy disks and even books. He noted that his girlfriend's personal phone was also taken.

No one was taken for interrogation, Fedor and his girlfriend are not involved in the case in any status.

A political scientist under the article on inciting hatred may face up to six years in prison. However, a TASS source in law enforcement agencies said that Nightingale was brought to the UK as part of the case under the article on extremism.

“At present, Valery Solovey has been taken to the UK, where investigative actions are being carried out as part of a criminal case under an article on extremism,” the agency’s interlocutor said.

At about 21:00 Moscow time, the interrogation of the political scientist and his son ended a few hours after the arrest. Both left the building of the Investigative Committee.

What Valery Solovey is known for

From 2007 to 2019, a political scientist worked at the Department of Advertising and Public Relations of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (taught the courses "PR and Advertising in Politics", "Fundamentals of Information Warfare and Media Manipulation", policy in the information sphere").

He adhered to nationalist views and was the author of several books on Russian nationalism. In 2012, he headed the New Force party, which was denied registration. Nightingale participated in the Russian Marches, and also in 2017 was a member of the campaign headquarters of presidential candidate Boris Titov.

In 2019, he said that the MGIMO leadership did not want to work with him anymore, as he "conducts anti-state propaganda" and "undermines political stability."

Nightingale stated that he was resigning under pressure and stopped teaching for political reasons.

Known as a public figure, in August 2020 he called for an all-Russian action of solidarity with the protesters in Khabarovsk, as well as with the Komi Republic and the Arkhangelsk region. The nightingale spoke out in support of the inhabitants of Bashkiria, defending Mount Kushtau.

On December 5, 2020, the political scientist was detained in St. Petersburg at a meeting with supporters of the Change movement. Then the court arrested him for 10 days for holding a mass public event without notifying the authorities.

Nightingale has also previously claimed to be an "associate member" of some powerful secret organization.
