In the self-proclaimed Lugansk People's Republic, two civilians died as a result of an attempted breakthrough by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This is stated in an emergency statement by the official representative of the people's militia of the LPR.
The incident occurred near the village of Pioneer, 7 km from the border with Russia.
“As a result of the aggression of the Kiev militants, two civilians were killed, 5 residential buildings were destroyed,” the report said.
Earlier, the DPR said that Ukraine, with the approval of the West, had launched an invasion.
The situation on the line of contact in eastern Ukraine escalated on the morning of February 17. The self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) reported the most active shelling by the armed forces of Ukraine in recent months.
The armed conflict in eastern Ukraine began in 2014 after the residents of Donbass refused to recognize the new government after the coup d'état in the country. In 2015, the leaders of the Normandy Four countries agreed on measures to implement the Minsk agreements adopted on September 19, 2014. In the same year, Ukraine adopted a law on the special status of Donbass, but it never entered into force.
