American businessman to send three planes of potatoes to Japan

American businessman Ryan Peterson, who heads the transport company Flexport, will send three Boeing 747 cargo planes to Japan, the bays of which will be filled with fries. Bloomberg reports.

The entrepreneur decided to offer the Japanese in this way to solve the problem of the shortage of this type of potato after McDonalds limited the sale of large and standard portions due to a shortage of supplies from Canada, an important transit point for goods.

The company said it will only offer small portions of fries. Local TV footage showed shoppers in Tokyo queuing up for the last big portions.

“Flexport has just signed a contract to supply three 747 potato freighters to Japan to help with the French fries shortage,” the company's CEO tweeted.

The fast food restaurant chain could not confirm or deny this information.

Nepalese blogger Gyanendra Mishra decided to calculate whether this would help solve the problem. According to his calculations, one Boeing 747 can carry 112,760 kg, and one order at McDonald's weighs 154 grams.

"This makes about 2.2 million orders," Mishra wrote on his Twitter.

She previously wrote about the shortage in Britain caused by the consequences of Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic.
