500 Russians were taken out of Kazakhstan

Military transport aircraft of the Russian Ministry of Defense have taken out 500 Russians from Kazakhstan, the Department of the Situational Crisis Center (DSKTs) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation reports on the Telegram channel.

Russian citizens flew out of Almaty.

"Employees of the DSKTs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, in close contact with consular offices, have already processed more than 1,200 applications received on the hotline, provide organizational assistance in the return of Russians," the department said.

On January 9, a plane from Kazakhstan delivered 100 people to Moscow, RIA Novosti reported, citing the Russian Defense Ministry. The Russians were in the republic with relatives and on a tourist trip.

On January 2, mass protests began in Kazakhstan. This happened after the government decided to raise gas prices from 60 to 120 tenge. The protests quickly escalated into riots and clashes with the police. On January 4, the government commission announced its decision to reduce the gas price to 50 tenge. On the night of January 5, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced the introduction of 180-day state regulation of prices for fuel and food in the country.
