Hockey player Zaripov convicted of doping supported figure skater Valieva

The captain of the Kazan "Ak Bars" Danis Zaripov, who was previously suspended from the competition due to doping, supported the figure skater Kamila Valieva and noted that he believes that the truth will win.

"Camila! Tatarstan and Russia support you, think only about competitions and believe in yourself. I know myself that the truth will surely win. Keep working, no matter what, and let it all bring you only new motivation to become better. We cheer for you and are proud of you, ”the official Ak Bars Twitter quotes Zaripov.

In 2017, traces of a prohibited drug were found in a doping test of 37-year-old Zaripov. In July, the hockey player was disqualified for two years, but after Zaripov challenged the suspension in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), and his term was reduced to six months. The hockey player managed to prove that the prohibited substance entered his body unintentionally.

RUSADA Launches Investigation Against Valieva's Personnel Due to Olympiad 2022 Doping Test Earlier on Friday, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) announced the opening of an investigation into Valieva's entourage over the athlete's positive doping test taken in December 2021.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) filed complaints with CAS against RUSADA's decision, which had previously removed the temporary suspension from the figure skater, which allowed her to compete at the Beijing Olympics in the team tournament.

Valieva, who won the gold medal in the team figure skating tournament as part of the Russian team at the Beijing Olympics, was given a temporary suspension on February 8 due to a positive doping test. From that moment on, she had no right to participate in competitions until the final decision on the case. The following day, the RUSADA Disciplinary Anti-Doping Committee lifted her provisional suspension. It was this decision that the IOC and WADA appealed against.

The figure skating team competition ended on February 7, but the awards ceremony has not yet taken place.
