The Russian team reached the final of the 5000 m short track relay at the Beijing Olympics.

The Russian team included Konstantin Ivliev, Pavel Sitnikov, Denis Hayrapetyan and Semen Elistratov. Throughout the race, the Russians were in third position, but at the finish, Yelistratov made a breakthrough, as a result of which the national team took second place in the race.

It also featured teams from South Korea, the Netherlands and Hungary. The latter dropped out of the fight after the fall of one of the athletes during the race. The Netherlands at the finish line lost to Russia by 0.002 seconds.
